About WPL Publishing Company
This website is run by WPL Publishing Company, publisher of
books, magazines, newsletters, software and websites since 1980,
primarily for the construction industry. BoomerBiker.com was
conceived in June 2002, as its editor spent hours, days, weeks and
months with obsessive research on all things motorcycles.
During this research, it became quickly evident that a
substantial amount of publications and media attention is
devoted to either the sportbike group, the young guns, racers and
the performance-focused groups of rider, or to the purebred Harley crowd.
While nuggets of information can be gained here and there,
information and repetitiveness became overwhelming and most often
catered to the very experienced rider. It was felt that a
website that was narrowly focused on the needs of the boomer
biker, especially those just getting started with motorcycles,
would be both unifying and useful as a long-term forum to learn and
share the similar experiences.
We go through the various stages from first interest in
motorcycles to learning how to dress, ride, wave, talk, purchase
and accessorize our bikes, then move on to the various social and
organizational aspects. Motorcycles present an
opportunity to ride with others, take trips and tours, join
organizations and participate in charity events.
BoomerBiker.com hopes to serve the boomer generation biker to get
the most out of their motorcycle adventure.
About the Editor
Paul Levin, editor, is a construction management type who's had
various interests over the years; interests always accompanied by
a bit of risk, but often rewarded by ample returns. A stint
as an SCCA race car driver, sailor and ski bum in the '70s, a
business entrepreneur in the 80s and early 90s, and currently an annual Rocky Mountain black diamond
skier provided the requisite risk/rewards over the years.
Having borrowed bikes for a couple hours during college, Paul
had no real affinity or desire to be a rider at the time, probably
because sports car were the more practical and prominent mode of
interest of his younger years. All of the sudden, at the age
of 55, some spontaneous rerouting of nerve pathways to the brain
put motorcycles full front on the area-of-interest radar.
Any motorcycle was cause to stop and look. Bikes became
objects of study, objects of art, objects of curiosity.
There was no explanation for this, the look, the urge
to ride, the sound, became a whole new world waiting to be
explored.
With that as background, Mr. Levin and contributing writers
hope to educate, entertain, inform and convey all the ins and
outs to make your motorcycle experience a memorable one.
