Motorcycle Times - Jul/Aug 2003
07-31-2003
The July/August issue of the Winding Road MOTORCYCLE TIMES has gone international.  The two "Real World Road Tests" feature Italian motorcycles: every magazine that's tested the new Aprilia Tuono has loved it, and the WRMT concurs, while contributor Neale Bayly flew to Spain to test Ducati's new supersport lineup of 620, 800, and 1000cc machines.  The "First Bike" feature tells of a long ride through Mexico, and this issue's "Close Encounter of the Worst Kind" happened in Innsbruck, Austria.  Also covered is a helmet from Red China.  Speaking of China, a Chinese restaurant figures prominently in "The Sesame Caper," another hilarious installment in Tom Chipley's "Steel McRench, Private Mechanic" series.  But there's plenty of local stuff, too, most especially new contributor Gregory A. Adsit's "Shakedown Street," and another of the "Beguiling Byways" features.
Motorcycle Times - May/June 2003
05-13-2003 - May/June 2003
As spring rolls into summer, most motorcyclists are looking for places to go and things to do, and that's what the May/June issue of the Winding Road MOTORCYCLE TIMES is all about. In addition to a whopping 29-page long "Events Calendar," there are two extensive articles on the upcoming "Ride Across Maryland" and the "Mason Dixon 20/20 Endurance Rally." For riders who prefer to set out on their own rather than join an organized ride, Bob Miller wrote up his version of "West Virginia's Top 10 Motorcycling Roads" - enough riding for a month of Sundays, and maybe more! Then again, after reading our book review and buying "Going the Extra Mile" by famed long-distance rider Ron Ayres, maybe a single Sunday would be enough ... It may not be suitable for 1000-mile days, but the Banquer Superior is such a faithful reproduction of the classic 1930's Brough Superior (except with a 100ci Rev-Tech engine), that showgoers regularly mistake it for the real thing. Read all about it in Bill Ford's "Classic Column." There's lots more, of course, so pick up your copy of the May/June Winding Road MOTORCYCLE TIMES at your favorite mid-Atlantic motorcycle shop, stick it in your saddlebag, and go riding!
Motorcycle Times - Mar/Apr 2003

Jerry Smith’s editorial recounted industry statistics for bike sold in 2002 (led by Honda, followed by Harley/Buell, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki, in that order, along with a number of interesting statistics reflecting the relatively good health of the industry. This issue’s editorial included several bike experiences, a KLR650 tour through Mexico and some good touring roads in central Pennsylvania amongst the swelling pages of mid-Atlantic bike events. Pick one up free at your local motorcycle shop.
Motorcycle Times - Jan/Feb 2003

The cover photo for the first issue of the MOTORCYCLE TIMES’ 15th year is a beautiful photo of a classic 1946 Matchless G80 - also the subject of Bill Ford’s "Classic Column." Roving columnist Bob Miller writes about his recent motorcycle trip around Ireland in "Keep Left and Look Right," and, to continue the British theme, "Big Sid" Biberman tells the tale of taking his Red Rapide Vincent for a lap of the old oval track at Darlington, SC, back in the late ‘50s. Riders of more nimble machines will relish Greg Williams "Beguiling Byway" piece on "Four, Uh-Oh, Four," a 14-mile stretch in Pennsylvania with "more twists, turns, switchbacks and hairpins than (he) could keep track of." There’s a writeup on Dunlop’s newest sport-touring radial, the D220, an introduction to "SuperMoto" racing, all of the WRMT’s regular columns, commentary and cartoons, plus a few short features that might inspire some readers to put the battery back in, and take her out for a mid-winter ride. At least, that’s the idea ...
Cycle World - December 2002
12-11-2002 - Magazine Summary
Among the usual variety of coverage of sportbikes, dirt bikes and racing is a stellar piece on entry level (read low price) bikes. The story offers a thorough review of 10 bikes under $5,000. An accompanying series of sidebars note how a number of people have successfully bought used bikes in various stages of disrepair into most-suitable daily riders with little cash outlay. Also includes an article about Vincent rebirth. Pertinent issues noted in Editor David Edward's Up Front editorial about overpowered bike. (FWIW, the average Cycle World rider is a "bre-boomer" -- late 30s to early 40s.)
